Angel Food Cake

For at least a year now Jared has been insisting that he could easily squish an entire angel food cake into a ball and put it in his mouth all at once, and eat the whole thing. The rest of us thought he was crazy.

This weekend at the canal he had his chance. We had 1/3 of the cake left, and he pressed and squished that thing to get it as small as he could. Even at it's smallest, it was the size of a fist. And this was only 1/3 of the cake he was so sure he could eat in one bite. The cake lost its fluffy, airy feel and became so dense. He didn't even eat a bite of that ball of cake.

Costco

Grandma Lynda was watching Anthony for a few hours today, so I decided to give Costco a shot. I've been there since the injury (many times in fact) but never by myself. Wasn't even sure that I could actually push a shopping cart, but I can. It was fun to be able to wander around and look at things (as you all know, shopping with Jared isn't exactly leisurely). Was able to get everything we needed and wanted so all in all it was a successful trip to Costco for me. By the end of the trip it was much more difficult to push that cart, and I was SO thankful for the lady who offered to push it to the checkout for me, and the employee who pushed the cart all the way to my car and then proceeded to unload it!

I unloaded all of the perishables (only took a few trips up and down the ramp) and the rest is waiting for my strong husband to carry in when he gets home! In the future I think I'll still go with Jared, but it's nice to know that if I need to get a few things on my own I can.

Tree Hugger

Anthony finally has his first scrape. He got it while he was pressing his face up against a tree trunk. Hardly a glamorous way to get a first scrape, but it is what it is. He continued to walk around playing with his little buddies - had no idea that he'd hurt himself or that blood was dripping down his nose!

the Zoo

We took Anthony to the Woodland Park Zoo this weekend and it was such a blast. The weather was perfect and Anthony really enjoyed himself. It is so great being able to introduce him to all of the fun, amazing things in the world!

Petting a goat. He was pretty excited about the goats when he was petting them through the fence, but not as interested once he was inside with them.

Checking out the hippos.
Playing the bongo drums with the other kids. This was probably his favorite part of the day. He was running around and so interested in what all of the other kids were doing. The kids were his favorite zoo attraction, not as interested in the animals yet.
The end of the day. He can't even sit up straight in his stroller he is so tired. He fell asleep within a few minutes of being in the car. We were there for only about 2.5 hours, which is all the activity this guy can handle without an afternoon nap!

Don't Forget!

Please remember to keep me in your prayers every day!

Medically speaking I am done recovering. The doctors will tell you that what you get back in your first year is likely all that you get back. It's been over a year now, and I don't have much back. Some sensation and no function.

God speaking, I will see a full recovery. I expect nothing but a miracle. So please keep praying as God is the only one who will change my current situation!

Old Man Laughing

I know it sounds like an old man, but that is Anthony's laugh - so funny. He laughs so hard and gets his parents doing lots of crazy things because we LOVE to hear that laugh!

Off to Work

Anthony carried his toolbox around all morning yesterday!

blueberries

Check out the crazy weather we are having! Thunder and major downpour. Glad I'm cozy inside, but really hoping this clears up before I have to leave in a couple of hours or I'm going to be soaked! Anthony is sleeping right through all of the thunder.

I am inside enjoying a warm blueberry muffin that I made this morning (and so far that's all I've eaten today, blueberry muffins). It would be perfect if I didn't have a 90 lb dog in my lap everywhere I go because she is terrified of thunder!

Yesterday Jared made me try a fresh blueberry. We have blueberry bushes in our back yard (though these were obviously from the store, as our blueberries certainly aren't ripe yet) and I've always insisted that I didn't really like fresh blueberries. Love them in desserts or any sort of baked goods, but not fresh. Last night I tried one and I can't remember why I don't like them fresh. They were quite delicious really! Jared is very proud of himself for convincing me to give them a shot again.

Hey Ryan - maybe you should try an EGG since you haven't had one since you were one!!

Encouragement

My brother-in-law, Mike, sent me an article on James Stockdale months ago, and I go back and read it from time to time to encourage me. Stockdale was a POW for seven years during the Vietnam war and made it out alive.

An excerpt from Wikipedia:

When Collins asked who didn't make it out of Vietnam, Stockdale replied:

"Oh, that’s easy, the optimists. Oh, they were the ones who said, 'We're going to be out by Christmas.' And Christmas would come, and Christmas would go. Then they'd say, 'We're going to be out by Easter.' And Easter would come, and Easter would go. And then Thanksgiving, and then it would be Christmas again. And they died of a broken heart."[11]

Stockdale then added:

"This is a very important lesson. You must never confuse faith that you will prevail in the end—which you can never afford to lose—with the discipline to confront the most brutal facts of your current reality, whatever they might be.”[11]

Personal Promise Bible

I received my Personal Promise Bible on Healing last week and had to tell you about it! I am just loving it! It's a book of all the scriptures in the Bible on healing - that's it, just healing. I can read it over and over again to be encouraged and to reinforce the healing that was already paid for, for me.

If you don't have a Personal Promise Bible, you have to get one. It inserts your name into the scriptures and opens up a whole new world when you are reading this book written to you.

Surely he has borne Beka's sickness, and carried Beka's suffering; yet Beka considered him plagued, struck by God, and afflicted. But He was pierced for Beka's transgressions. He was crushed for Beka's iniquities. The punishment that brought her peace was on Him; and by His wounds Beka is healed. Isaiah 53:4-5

I have had the full Bible for years now, but am just loving having all these scriptures in one spot in the Healing Pocket Bible. They have different subjects (finance, marriage, etc.) too - get one!

14.5 months

Well I've been sitting in this *&#$*@! chair for almost 15 months now. It doesn't get easier, it gets harder. I don't get more used to it as the days go on. I hate it more and more as the days go on, as I realize that I am so limited, there are so many things I'd like to do but can't. I hate it.

Progress? I am not really seeing any. It's so hard to keep hoping. Faith is being sure of what we hope for, and certain of what we do not see (Hebrews 11:1).

My at home exercise routine is going well and I've been able to stick to it for the most part. That means about an hour a day of exercise while Anthony is napping, and then in the evenings when Jared is home either standing or electric stim.

My circulation seems to have improved as of lately, which means warmer legs & feet and better color (ie not purple all the time). We've also noticed that I seem to have a lot of increased control in my hips which is nice.

I am trusting that God has a purpose for this part of my life, that this didn't take him by surprise, and that this nightmare will be over soon.

How quickly he forgets....

Jared: If you need an idea for Father's Day, you could get me a cover for my new BBQ.

Me: How about you just go buy a cover, because I already gave you a NEW BBQ for Father's Day.

Love your camera?

We are beginning the search for an SLR camera. Do you love yours? Hate it? What would you recommend for an entry level user??

We currently use the Nikon P80 but want something that can capture moments more quickly and that's better in low light.

What have you experienced with the Nikon D5000?

Thanks for the tips!

Wallet

Jared's back was finally hurting enough that he decided to switch wallets. ;) He still carries the huge one in his laptop bag (can we say hard time letting go??) but the thinner wallet he carries in his back pocket. His new MontBlanc wallet was a gift that he will be sure to enjoy for many years. And he can only fit a few cards in it, which is a huge bonus. But now we won't be able to make fun of him for his ridiculously huge wallet.

Big Kid

Dinner is Served

Kendra & Steve brought over dinner on Monday. She made her delicious chicken enchiladas and Anthony just loved them. It's the best he has eaten in quite some time - he couldn't get enough!
Steve & Anthony making faces at each other.

Stylish Diapers

Grandma Lynda bought these denim-looking diapers from Huggies for the boys, so of course we had to have a photo shoot with them. It is obvious from these photos that our sons eat very well.

Roma

Poor Roma doesn't get much attention any more. The Ames came down to the canal with us for part of the weekend and Roma loved Maddie and Ben. Maddie couldn't stop hugging Roma, which of course Roma thoroughly enjoyed.

To Fertilize, or not to fertilize?

I am putting this picture up to prove to you that fertilizer does indeed work. Kim decided to test the fertilizer on about four strips of grass (the upper right corner). It's a nice look, striped grass, isn't it?!
