Home Improvements

You'll notice that behind this cute kid in the background there is a NEW MICROWAVE! Finally! We'd been living with the old one assuming it would go out one of these days. But it never did. And if you've been to our house you must remember the monstrosity that was there. It was probably original to our house (built in 1979). Finally convinced Jared to replace it, and now I have this new microwave that cooks food in literally half the time. This lovely model was installed at our recent work party by Kim and Mike. Fantastic! We've been doing a lot of work around here, toying with the idea of selling the place but haven't really figured out what our plan is yet. But we do know that a lot of things were neglected over the last couple of years due to an incident with a wheelchair and we are finally getting caught up on the house!

The rumors are true...

We are trying to encourage our son to be right handed. He tends to favor his left hand, and we are trying to encourage him to use his right hand more. I'm so afraid that I won't be able to teach him how to write if he's left handed! I feel like there are things we'll need to be able to show him how to do in life, and it will be hard if he's left handed and not right like us. Is this horrible?! Maybe! Do any of you parents of left handed kids have any pointers for me?! Should we stop trying to switch him?

Mr. Fix It

Sorry for the blogging lull - I guess we've got the winter blahs over here. The sun the last few days has been so nice, and I'm really looking forward to spring! Anthony has really taken to the screwdriver lately and wants to try to fix things any chance he can get. And of course his fake tools will not suffice - he only wants the real deal and will head straight for the garage asking for the screwdriver.

He made some how to photos for those of you who may not have used a screwdriver before.

Everything Changes

Well my hard working husband left for Chicago today, and I can't help but think back to last year when he went and how life is so different now. In a good way. Sometimes it's so hard to see improvements because I'm not walking again, and that is really what I focus on, but I certainly have improved.

I couldn't get Anthony in/out of the car last December, which left me home for two weeks unless one of my nice family members came to take me on an outing. AH! Thank God that Anthony and I can get out and do things now - most days we have a pretty fun schedule filled with play dates or Bible study or errands or some other activity to keep us busy! Being able to get him in and out of the car has been such a wonderful thing!!

The list goes on and on - cooking, exercising, playing with A, etc....I feel so much more confident now that I can actually do everything that needs to be done around here. Physically I am much more capable of keeping up with Anthony and just more confident in my abilities. (Going to Pushing Boundaries really changed my wheelchair life - more on that later...). It's crazy to think that now I really feel like nothing is off limits to me. And of course there are a few things that are, but everything that I want to do, I'm able to do. Well except go for a run, but any day now that will change....;)

Life is basically "normal" now. I'm right where I expected to be at this time, just didn't expect to be in a wheelchair.

I am kind of bummed that I don't get to go with J on this trip; I'd originally planned to, and it would have been loads of fun. But all of the horror stories on the news have me scared, and I am certainly not going to pull my pants down to go through security (as one person in a wheelchair had to do) so I'm holding off on the flying for now, hoping that things will get a little better soon.

We are of course going to miss Jared! Anthony has already asked for him at least five times and it's only been a couple of hours. But until he gets home I will be happily enjoying lots of time playing with my little man, and I'll also be squeezing in naps as often as I can, because his energy wears me out...;)

Words to live by

Well about two weeks into the year I've finally finished writing out my goals and vision for 2011....maybe next year I'll do a better job of starting early! I like having a written vision for my year as it gives me a standard to hold myself to, and allows me to have a clear picture of what does and doesn't fit into my life.

My "slogan" for myself for this year is Walking Again in 2011. It would be better if it rhymed I suppose, but not much rhymes with 11. I truly believe this is the year I'll start walking and that I'll see many changes and I'm looking forward to it! Standing on Romans 4:17 and calling those things that are not as though they were, with a word making something out of nothing. This new year holds so many exciting things for our family, and I pray it does for yours as well.

Our Little Sleeper

Jared's last day off (after 12 days!) is today and back to work he goes in the morning. We have been so busy the last couple of weeks and have had such a great time hanging out as a family, too bad he can't retire now!

Anthony woke up today at 11:15 and we were sure he wouldn't take a nap since he basically slept the day away. But he asked for a nap later in the afternoon and ended up sleeping for 1.5 hours. This kid must have been so worn out from all of the craziness! I'm so glad his body seems to know he needs sleep when he is cranky and tired!
